Jerry (Butch)'s Story
Life
Moved to a small town (DeRidder) in Louisiana March of my junior year. I went through culture shock for several years and think sometimes I'm still suffering from it. The difference between Clark & DeRidder High was like night & day. Parents divorced right after I graduated. My mother and siblings moved back to Vegas and are still there. I stayed in Louisiana with my dad. I went to work the day after graduation at Fort Polk (army base) as a summer laborer. Job was to only be for the summer but my supervisor liked me and kept me on for over a year. I got caught in a RIF since I hadn't been there long. My girl friend at the time was moving to Houston so I followed. Went to work for Brown & Root building offshore drilling rigs. Girl friend and I broke up and I was in Houston all by myself. I lived a lonely life in that big city for several more months. I just couldn't stand it any longer and moved back to Louisiana. Got divorced, remarried and had another kid. Got Divorced and remarried and had no kids. Got divorced for the third time and finally learnt my lesson. It's not something I'm very proud of. It took me 18 years before I would go back and visit the city (Vegas) I was raised in. I think I visit almost every year now. Vegas isn't the city it used to be. I guess I'm glad I stayed here in Louisiana because I don't think I could live in Vegas as it is today. Life at Clark was the best time of my life. I wish I was back there and time would stand still. My best friends were Kirk Hadley & Eddie Harney. I know Eddie lives in Reno and last I heard Kirk was in Vegas. I haven't seen these guys since March of 73 but have talked w/ them a couple of times. My biggest wish is for the 3 of us to some how get together while we still can.
School
Went to Garside in the 8th & 9th grade. Went to Clark sophomore and most of junior year. Moved to Louisana March of junior year. Went to DeRidder High School march of junior year until graduation.
